I've been longing to catch Phobia 2 ever since i saw the trailer 2-3 weeks ago. As always, Thailand's horror films are always the best and undoubtfully highly rated. Down to earth terrifying tales that are so real, plus your endless imaginative mind, it would cause an unpleasant aftermath. For instance, after many years had passed, many still rank "The Shutter" as one of the most horrifying movie ever watched. Agree?
Thus last Saturday after dropping my dear on her CLP classes, i gathered my courage and go for Phobia 2... alone. Most of my friends and colleagues find it rather disturbing to watch horror movies, so does my girlfriend, as a result im felt with me alone. It was my first experience, as im usually surrounded with a bunch of friends. It was a pretty bold move for a guy like me to watch Phobia 2 all by myself.
Phobia 2 is dissected into 5 shorts stories; Novice, Ward, Backpackers, Salvage, and In The End.
The movie itself managed to freak me out, those that created sudden adrenaline rush and jump you off your seat. Personally i found that the last story is the best of all, In The End...
Ter, Puak, Shin and Aey are the movie crew of an upcoming horror movie. They are shooting their last scene. On the last night, Puak is trying to be cool and tells one of the sick cast members that, "the show must go on". So when that actress accidentally dies during the filming she makes sure to come back from the dead to finish her role. The four of them must shoot the movie that has a real ghost playing the role of ghost in the end, and the main actress must not know about this.
The storyline maybe a little too simple, but it had a twist underneath the brilliant script. Creating those eerie thoughts that the "thing" is back because of unfinished business, and the crewmembers had to continue filming. In The End is also filled with hilarious ideas and funny scenes that make the whole crowd laugh throughout the short story. It makes you walk out of the cinema with a smile in your face, instead of OMFGBBQSAUCE its so scary!
Overall, two thumbs up from me. Recommended for those Thailand horror movie fans.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

How's G.I. Joe? Its like chewing Double Bubble in your mouth and it goes BOOM BOOM POW! Translation, the 119 minutes film is far more worthy than RM6 paid. In short, its GREAT!
The movie is filled with action pack, well blended with some good sense of humor by Marlon Wayans. The admiration of higher-level technology and gadgets, advanced machinery, and the introduction of nanotechnology is purely awesome. The storyline is also another aspect that should be highly praised. It's able to keep one's adrenaline high right from the start.
I did some homework before i got into the cinema. Roughly and briefly glance through the history, just to get to know them a little better. Along the way, some questions pop up in my mind, and fortunately they were being well explained towards the ending. Query like James McCullen is Destro, but why isnt him covered in white? Where is the Cobra Commander? What happened to Duke and Baroness?
Despite its awesome, i felt its a little overrated. Remember the scene in Paris, where Duke and Ripcord are chasing after the Black Chevrolet Hummer? I felt the trailing part could be improvised by shorten the OMG-im-still-chasing-after-them. No doubt i fell in love with Paris again when it shows the street on Champs-Elysees and Arc de Triomphe, i felt its too much running with the overweight armor.
Mind you, some of the scene is so fake that you could see it with your naked eyes. Its like the director trying to cut down the time and cost by replacing it with a CGI, but couldnt get it done flawlessly. Brendan Frazer only play a minor role as Sergeant Stone? Snake Eye's mask doesnt look too good either, it could have been better.

However my comments may be, its still a movie that should not be missed this year. I enjoyed the film very much. Go Joe! Awaiting the sequel.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Im not much of a Harry Potter's fan, but surprisingly, i never miss any of the episodes that released in the cinema. Then i felt that since i've watched the last 5, i might as well not to miss the one. So yesterday, Vince and i went to the Queensbay to catch this epic movie. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince.

I must say, although Professor Dumbledore died towards the end of the movie, but somehow i find this movie rather fascinating. I never have the urge to watch any of the Harry Potter series, but right now, im very much anticipated to watch the last of its lengthy chronicle, The Deadly Hollow.
Personally i felt that Professor Snape is more than just a mere professor. I sense he's an inside man, like a spy. His character and the way he mysteriously portray himself, just makes me curious, makes me wonder...

2012
21 December 2012. Probably many had heard the rumors claming the world would end in this very date. With all the theories spreading in an exponential rate in numerous books, Internet sites and TV documentaries, is it true that the end is near?
The movie 2012 is going to be released on November this year. And honestly, i just cant wait to see. I could see its something like The Day After Tomorrow where it shows massive disasters and destructions upon our lands, except The Day After Tomorrow focused more on the consequences of global warming. Here are the trailers on 2012.
Just the thought of the gigantic tsunami are going to consume the Himalaya Mountains are so overwhelming. Its like the beginning of an end.
The forecast is based on the Mayan Calendar or Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar that's reach the end of its baktun cycle in December 21 or 23, 2012 during winter solstice, along with interpretations of assorted legends, scriptures, numerological constructions and prophecies. To my understanding, when the baktun had reached its end, it will reset the numbers and move to a higher count, that marks a new dawn.
A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation rather than an Armageddon, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a newer sociopolitical age for the global community. - this is what i believe.
The Mayan left us a calendar with symbols to decipher, and we found out that the cycle ends in 21 December 2012. But if the calendar is rounded without any polygons, why couldnt it be a continuality? For example in Chinese horoscopes, we're now living in the Year of Ox, so the next cycle is Year of Rabbit. Im sure you heard of those terms like "Stone Age", "Medieval Age" and "Modern Age"? To me, its quite the same as the concept of a baktun. Just numbers. Plus, the academic research does not indicate that the Mayan attached any apocalyptic significance to the year 2012.
Polar shifting as a result of galactic alignment. Constantly i wonder how true is it? Lets say it is going to happen, the scientists and the astronomers could not even create a prototype or simulate the exact scenario to strengthen their theory of pole shifting that cause the world end in just the matter of hours or days. Honestly i agreed on polar shifting due to magnetic forces, but if you're referring to the impacts and damages like in the movie 2012, i felt its too exaggerated.
The Hopi prophecy, the Bible's Book of Revelation, the prophecy of the Tiburtine Sybil, the Lost Book of Nostradamus, and even from the Merlin and Mother Shipton may reckon doomsday or end of the world. Whatever the end may be, they didnt proposed any date the catastrophes will occur. As a result, all those prophecies are subject to "applicable" whenever needed. Lets say 8 solid years from now, another hidden astrological artifact claims that a comet will hit on Earth in 2019, i bet those prophecies will be reused and recycle.
Thus, i believe all these are put together to create an uproar and uneasiness within us. With these curiosity, panic and fear, it would indirectly inject and propel increment of sales in books, magazines and papers as we feel the needs to find out more. Probably that would have answer why there's a sudden emergence of books that co-relate to 2012 in my local bookstores. Webpage popularity and number of hit counts in a day would gain them cash. Sort of blogging for money. Making a movie out of it, 2012, could instantly generate a huge some of income as well.
However, i believe that all these are mere speculations and assumptions. I'll remain skeptical until i've seen the truth. I'll rather believe in global warming that we are now experiencing. The poles are melting; climates are changing dramatically, the trapped heat in our atmosphere. But still, im very anticipate to watch 2012 in cinema. The CGI effects, the ideas and thoughts on how the world would face its dooms, are just intriguing. There are many things still need to be done before the year 2012, i still got a whole lots of things i want to do.

SIGNS by Patrick Hughes
Few days ago, i came across this short film (12 minutes long) in Facebook. Entitled Love Without Talking or so it seems, i decided to take a look.
It will be presented in the upcoming Schweppes Short Film Festival. The film has no dialog between the two main characters, just music. Communication is done by signs, facial expressions and scrabbles on papers. Its a warm touching short film thats just brilliantly expressing itself. Lovely and sweet. I like it very much!

Terminator Salvation
Terminator: Salvation
The year is 2018. Judgment Day has come and gone, leveling modern civilization. An army of Terminators roams the post-apocalyptic landscape, killing or collecting humans where they hide in the desolate cities and deserts. But small groups of survivors have organized into a Resistance, hiding in underground bunkers and striking when they can against an enemy force that vastly outnumbers them.
Controlling the Terminators is the artificial intelligence network Skynet, which became self-aware 14 years earlier and, in the blink of an eye, turned on its creators, unleashing nuclear annihilation on an unsuspecting world. Only one man saw Judgment Day coming. One man, whose destiny has always been intertwined with the fate of human existence: John Connor (Christian Bale).
Now the world is on the brink of the future that Connor has been warned about all his life. But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger from the past whose last memory is of being on death row before awakening in this strange, new world. Connor must decide whether Marcus can be trusted. But as Skynet adapts new strategies to end the Resistance forever, Connor and Marcus must find common ground to take a stand against the onslaught—to infiltrate Skynet and meet the enemy head-on.
Who's up for Terminator Salvation?

Angels And Demons
Got up 9:45 in Sunday morning. I seldom got up this early during weekends; i usually sleep until near noon. But yesterday was different cause im going to watch Angels and Demons at the price of RM5! Gotta be the early bird to catch the worms. I got to be honest, im not so anticipated in watching Angels and Demons, not until yesterday. Not that i dislike Tom Hanks. Mind you, he's a great actor, one of my favorites along with Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Cliff Owen, Russell Crowe and so forth.
I read Da Vinci Code's novel written by Dan Brown couple of years ago, thus when the Da Vinci Code movie was released, many reviews and critics greatly slammed that movie. Cause the novel was more captivating, with each and every single aspect being explained and portrayed in detail. So you could see why im a little reluctant, and i seem to prefer Star Trek (cause Zachary Quinto is in that movie) and the local production, $ell Out.
Speaking of Angels and Demons, i too brought that novel but i could only managed to finish half of it, didnt have enough time to actually finish the whole book before the movie.
After spending my 2 hours 19 minutes in the cinema, all i could say is, its REALLY GOOD! Two thumbs up. I would surely mark it 3 thumbs up, well if i happened to have another thumb. The storyline is quite the same as the one i read and i could basically link from what i've read to what i've seen.
With the story set on Vatican City (the place i've always wanted to visit ever since the emergence of Trinity Blood), i cant help but to let myself be amazed with the scenery. The architectures, structures, buildings, statues of angels and saints, pillars and obelisks. Even if you cant understand whats Illuminati or why do they need to kill the four cardinals, just for the places shown and the richness of histories are enough to make worth of your hard-earn cash paid.
You just have to see it for yourself!

Eagle Eye

Watched the movie in cinema over the weekend, and i must say, its absolutely "KEK". The plot and ploy are very good. Its about the whole US is being controlled and monitored by Artificial Intelligence (Aria). Its been a while since i last watch such a movie.
Overall, its worth the money paid. The thought of it really amazed me. CCTV, lips reading, sound and wave recognition, centralized information repository. It goes to the extend of everything you do, will be monitored and can be take as legal action against you.
As for critics, there are two...
1. The cameraman need to be replaced. Its too shaky.
2. I agree with Henrick, Shia LeBeouf looks too young for the movie.
Despite the setbacks, its still two thumbs up from me. =)

Three
I fear that I will always be a lonely number like root three
A three is all that's good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath a vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nine
For nine could thwart this evil trick,
With just some quick arithmetic
I know I'll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationality
When hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a three
Has quietly come waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integer
We break free from our mortal bonds
And with a wave of magic wands
Our square root signs become unglued
And love for me has been renewed...
It sounds pretty lame, but i just have to admit that im kinda amazed when i heard it for the first time. Never knew wthin such a hilarious movie Harold and Kumar 2: Escape from Guantanamo Bay, lies a brilliant poetry using mathematical as a genre. Three...

Money Not Enough
What would you do if you're going through shortage of money? Experiencing droughts; running low in purchasing power; restricted with limited resource.
Would you strive through the hard days? Would your love one still stand by your side supporting and believing in you? What would you do to make the most out of it?
Sigh...
Would you rob a bank? Or would you commit suicide like the scene below? Lie on the bed after everything end, having your friends and family members to grieve over your death...
I aint gonna do any of those stupid stuffs. Im going to be the one inside the cinema with my cellphone silent. Shh... dont wake the dead. =x
Money Not Enough II. I guess its a movie that every citizen going to be anticipated. Judging on the previous series, it had certainly landed all of us very much looking forward for the upcoming Jack Neo's production.
Even the teaser itself is enough to make me laugh!!! LOL. I bet it's going to be another down to earth and hilarious movie.
So... who wanna join me for the movie? =)

The Incredible Hulk
MIt was yesterday when i watch The Incredible Hulk with my friends at GSC. It went screening several days ago and we're glad we still able to get a comfort seat in Cinema 2.
Full of actions and certainly better than the previous Hulk by Eric Bana. Worth my money paid. Not forgetting, there's still a funny quote from the movie;

"You dont like me when im hungry..."
The ending, well there's a mystery out of it. The appearance of Mr. Tony Stark aka IronMan, confronted the general to form an alliance.
Avengers, that was the upcoming film going to be. The Avengers are a team of superheroes, just like DC Comics' Justice League of America, but comprized of Marvel superheroes. They include Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and others as well.
Rumors had it that Marvel wants Leonardo DiCaprio as Captain America. A crossover. This going to be cool!!!
Apart from it, i came across this video in Youtube. It looks cool. Grab yourself popcorns and have a watch. The incredible McCain Girl. Enjoy.
